The UK–Ukraine ResearchBridge: Accelerating Reconstruction through Science & Innovation

In March 2026, 鶹ýӳ, University College London, and the UK Government’s Science and Technology Network convened the UK–Ukraine ResearchBridge: Accelerating Reconstruction through Science & Innovation conference.  

The conference brought together participants from the UK and Ukraine, including ministers, scientific advisers, research leaders, representatives from twinned universities, senior researchers from UK and Ukrainian and Universities, and members of the Ukrainian research diaspora.

The UK–Ukraine ResearchBridge programme, delivered by University College London and supported by the UK Government’s Science and Technology Network aims to catalyse and support sustainable partnerships between UK and Ukrainian research and innovation institutions, companies, NGOs, and governments, delivering under the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership.

During the conference, participants: 

  • mapped UK-Ukraine research priorities, pipelines, and challenges, focusing on energy resilience, defence innovation, medicine, and reconstruction
  • showcased six UK-Ukraine project-level collaborations in MedTech, clean energy and green recovery, highlighting successes and key lessons learned
  • explored how UK–Ukraine research collaboration can support Ukraine’s recovery, with a particular focus on energy security, sustainable reconstruction, and the development of long-term research and institutional partnerships
  • explored practical funding and policy pathways for advancing UK–Ukraine collaboration ideas

The conference participants identified key outcomes and recommendations to help shape the next stage of the ResearchBridge programme and strengthen collaboration across the UK–Ukraine research and innovation system.
