2026 CAS-RS AI ethics workshop: Ethical considerations in physical AI systems

24 July 2026

The 2026 CAS-RS AI Ethics Workshop on Ethical considerations in physical AI systems brought together scientists, technologists, ethicists and policy voices to discuss the ethical, safety and governance implications of physical and embodied AI.

Participants considered how AI systems that sense, decide and act in the physical world raise distinctive challenges, including accountability, trust, privacy, employment, safety and responsibility.

The discussions highlighted the importance of treating ethics as an integral system property throughout the design, deployment and operation of embodied AI systems. Participants also explored the need for shared terminology, realistic testing environments, ethical impact assessment, transparency and accountability tools, and collaboration across technical, social science, policy and industry communities.
